GLM detects total lightning, including in-cloud and cloud-to-ground activity; a plotted point is not guaranteed to be an exact ground-strike location. A detection within 6 statute miles keeps the take-cover alert active for 30 minutes after the most recent 6-mile detection. Use approved operational lightning procedures and sources for flight decisions.
